Cependant, il se d\u00e9veloppe dans les tissus musculaires avant d\u2019attaquer le syst\u00e8me nerveux et de se propager.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><strong>COMMENT LA RAGE SE TRANSMET-ELLE?<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p>Une fois que le virus a atteint le syst\u00e8me nerveux (moelle \u00e9pini\u00e8re et cerveau), il se propage vers les glandes salivaires. De grandes quantit\u00e9s de salive contenant le virus sont produites et s\u2019\u00e9coulent dans la bouche. C\u2019est pourquoi la maladie est principalement transmise par morsure.<\/p><p>Lorsque la salive d\u2019un animal infect\u00e9 p\u00e9n\u00e8tre dans une plaie ouverte ou entre en contact avec des muqueuses, la transmission est presque in\u00e9vitable. M\u00eame la salive contaminant une \u00e9gratignure peut provoquer une infection.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><strong>QUELS ANIMAUX PEUVENT TRANSMETTRE LA RAGE?<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p>Les animaux sauvages repr\u00e9sentent le plus grand risque d\u2019exposition \u00e0 la rage pour vos animaux de compagnie. <br \/><br \/>Au Canada, la rage est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement transmise par les renards, les mouffettes et les chauves-souris.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><strong>SYMPT\u00d4MES COURANTS DE LA RAGE CHEZ LES ANIMAUX DE COMPAGNIE INFECT\u00c9S<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><strong>Il existe deux formes de rage<\/strong>\u00a0: la forme paralytique et la forme furieuse. Des signes b\u00e9nins sont perceptibles dans les trois premiers jours suivant l\u2019infection. \u00c0 partir de l\u00e0, elle \u00e9volue vers le stade furieux, le stade paralytique ou une combinaison des deux. Certains animaux peuvent m\u00eame mourir avant de pr\u00e9senter des sympt\u00f4mes.<\/p><p><strong>Le virus peut entra\u00eener des changements physiques et comportementaux radicaux chez les CHIENS. Par la suite, le virus se d\u00e9cha\u00eene.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><strong>QUELS SONT LES ANIMAUX DE COMPAGNIE LES PLUS \u00c0 RISQUE?<\/strong><\/span><\/p><ul><li>Chiens et chats non vaccin\u00e9s<\/li><li>Chiens ou chats qu\u2019on laisse se promener seuls<\/li><li>Chiens ou chats en contact avec des animaux sauvages ou des animaux de compagnie non vaccin\u00e9s<\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><strong>DIAGNOSTIC<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p>Il n\u2019existe pas de tests pr\u00e9cis, \u00e0 l\u2019exception du test d\u2019immunofluorescence directe (utilisant le tissu du cerveau) qui ne peut \u00eatre r\u00e9alis\u00e9 qu\u2019apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9c\u00e8s de l\u2019animal.<\/p><p>Si vous ne pouvez pas transporter votre animal de compagnie de mani\u00e8re s\u00e9curitaire jusqu\u2019\u00e0 une clinique v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire, communiquez avec les services de contr\u00f4le des animaux pour obtenir de l\u2019aide et \u00e9viter d\u2019\u00eatre infect\u00e9.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><strong>PR\u00c9VENTION<\/strong><\/span><\/p><ul><li>N<sup>o<\/sup>1\u00a0: VACCINATION<\/li><li>Surveiller l\u2019animal de compagnie lorsqu\u2019il est \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur.<\/li><li>Emp\u00eacher tout contact avec les animaux sauvages ou toute exposition \u00e0 ces derniers.<\/li><\/ul><p>Si vous pensez que votre animal de compagnie a \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9 au virus (en particulier si vous remarquez un des sympt\u00f4mes mentionn\u00e9s), emmenez-le imm\u00e9diatement \u00e0 une clinique v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire. <br \/><br \/><em>Portez des gants et tenez-vous loin de la gueule de votre animal de compagnie.<\/em><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><strong>CONTACT HUMAIN-ANIMAL INFECT\u00c9<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p>Si vous pensez avoir contract\u00e9 l\u2019infection, consultez imm\u00e9diatement un m\u00e9decin, car la maladie est mortelle et les cas de survie sont rares.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><strong>TRAITEMENT<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p>La rage est une maladie incurable.<\/p><p><strong><em>Enfin, N\u2019essayez PAS de manipuler ou de capturer un animal possiblement infect\u00e9 (il faut plut\u00f4t le signaler) et assurez-vous TOUJOURS que les vaccins de vos animaux de compagnie sont \u00e0
