Le programme des chiens-guides de la Fondation des Lions du Canada et son programme fondateur Vision canine Canada ont vu le jour en 1983. Ces chiens microscopiques, apparus il y a quelques ann\u00e9es, sont malheureusement consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme des accessoires de mode. Les avortons d\u2019une port\u00e9e (c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire, les plus petits ou les plus faibles \u00e9l\u00e9ments) sont souvent crois\u00e9s afin de cr\u00e9er des versions miniatures, aussi appel\u00e9es \u00abteacup \u00bb parce qu\u2019ils sont si petits qu\u2019ils pourraient presque tenir dans une tasse de th\u00e9. Il ne s\u2019agit pas de conditions d\u2019\u00e9levage normales. Les chiens miniatures ne sont pas consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme une race comme telle et leur \u00e9levage n\u2019est pas r\u00e9glement\u00e9. <\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>

Selon les organismes de protection des animaux, la mode des chiens miniatures met en danger la vie des animaux, car les croisements consanguins augmentant les risques de probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9 tant pour la m\u00e8re que pour ses chiots. Aucune race particuli\u00e8re n\u2019est utilis\u00e9e dans ce processus de reproduction non naturel, m\u00eame si les \u00e9leveurs trouvent de nouvelles fa\u00e7ons de miniaturiser des races d\u00e9j\u00e0 petites telles que le shih tzu, le chihuahua, le caniche, le beagle, le carlin, le Loulou nain et le terrier du Yorkshire.

Ces chiens p\u00e8sent 3,2 kg ou moins \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge adulte et leurs nombreux probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9 sont directement li\u00e9s \u00e0 leur taille anormalement r\u00e9duite, qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse d\u2019hypoglyc\u00e9mie, de troubles digestifs, de shunts h\u00e9patiques, d\u2019hydroc\u00e9phalie, de cardiopathie et de probl\u00e8mes respiratoires, sans compter les difficult\u00e9s pour le ma\u00eetre de poss\u00e9der un animal de compagnie fragile, souffrant de maladies chroniques et dont l\u2019esp\u00e9rance de vie est courte.

Les chiens miniatures sont souvent abandonn\u00e9s \u00e0 des refuges en raison de leurs probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9 et de la d\u00e9ception et de l\u2019insatisfaction de leur ma\u00eetre. \u00c0 la grande surprise de certains propri\u00e9taires, les chiens miniatures n\u2019ont pas la capacit\u00e9 de faire les m\u00eames choses que les chiens de taille normale et le traitement de leurs probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9 peut co\u00fbter tr\u00e8s cher. \u00c0 cause de leur petite taille, ils passent leur vie dans un sac \u00e0 main et font tr\u00e8s peu d\u2019exercice, sans compter le fait qu\u2019ils n\u2019ont pratiquement pas d\u2019interactions avec d\u2019autres chiens.

Une solution plus humaine serait de se tourner vers une race de chien de manchon, dont les chiens sont en meilleure sant\u00e9 que les chiens miniatures, et ainsi contribuer \u00e0 \u00e9roder la tendance d\u2019\u00e9levage contestable de ces petits chiens \u00e0 la pi\u00e8tre qualit\u00e9 de vie.<\/p>
