La maladie \u00e9volue au fil du temps et survient en pr\u00e9sence de l\u00e9sions r\u00e9nales irr\u00e9versibles de longue date qui diminuent la capacit\u00e9 des reins \u00e0 \u00e9liminer les d\u00e9chets du sang et \u00e0 r\u00e9guler d\u2019autres fonctions essentielles.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><i>*\u00a0Il est rare de d\u00e9couvrir les causes fonctionnelles et structurelles de la maladie r\u00e9nale chez les chats parce que le diagnostic initial n\u2019est habituellement pos\u00e9 qu\u2019aux stades avanc\u00e9s de la maladie.<\/i><\/span><\/p><h3><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><b>Fonctions des reins<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/h3><p><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">Les reins sont essentiels au maintien des fonctions corporelles normales. Le rein est un organe remarquable et tr\u00e8s complexe qui assure les fonctions suivantes :<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">Filtrer les d\u00e9chets et l\u2019eau en surplus dans le sang afin qu\u2019ils puissent \u00eatre excr\u00e9t\u00e9s dans l\u2019urine. Ce processus permet d\u2019\u00e9liminer les toxines de l\u2019organisme et de maintenir un degr\u00e9 ad\u00e9quat d\u2019hydratation.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">R\u00e9guler les \u00e9lectrolytes (comme le sodium, le potassium, le phosphore et le calcium) dans l\u2019organisme.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">Produire et concentrer l\u2019urine, compos\u00e9e de d\u00e9chets, de toxines et du surplus de liquide dont l\u2019organisme n\u2019a pas besoin.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">Produire l\u2019\u00e9rythropo\u00ef\u00e9tine, une hormone qui stimule la moelle osseuse \u00e0 former de nouveaux globules rouges. Les globules rouges transportent l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne dans toutes les parties du corps.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">Produire la r\u00e9nine, une enzyme qui r\u00e9gule la tension art\u00e9rielle.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><h3><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><b>Affections reconnues comme des causes de l&#8217;IRC<\/b><\/span><\/h3><p><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">La plupart des cas d&#8217;IRC sont idiopathiques (cause sous-jacente inconnue); toutefois, certaines affections ont \u00e9t\u00e9 reconnues comme des causes de l&#8217;IRC. En voici quelques exemples :<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><b>Calculs r\u00e9naux\u00a0: <\/b>des maladies, g\u00e8nes ou infections bact\u00e9riennes peuvent participer \u00e0 la formation de calculs r\u00e9naux.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><b>Obstruction r\u00e9nale\u00a0: <\/b>des morceaux de calculs r\u00e9naux qui ont \u00e9clat\u00e9 ou se sont fractur\u00e9s peuvent provoquer un blocage partiel ou complet du conduit qui achemine l\u2019urine (uret\u00e8re) du rein \u00e0 la vessie.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><b>Tumeurs r\u00e9nales\u00a0<\/b>: un cancer, comme un lymphome (tumeur solide de globules blancs), peut affecter les reins.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><b>Infections\u00a0<\/b>: une infection bact\u00e9rienne des reins peut provoquer suffisamment de dommages pour causer une IRC.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><b>Toxines\u00a0<\/b>: l\u2019antigel est une toxine qui suscite beaucoup d\u2019attention, mais de nombreux \u00e9l\u00e9ments dans et autour de la maison sont dangereux lorsqu\u2019ils sont ing\u00e9r\u00e9s; par exemple, les lys (toutes les parties et m\u00eame l\u2019eau dans laquelle ils se trouvent) et divers m\u00e9dicaments (m\u00e9dicaments courants en vente libre et d\u2019ordonnance).<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><b>Maladie glom\u00e9rulaire\u00a0<\/b>: il s\u2019agit d\u2019une inflammation des glom\u00e9rules (unit\u00e9s qui filtrent le sang dans les reins). Lorsque l\u2019inflammation persiste dans le temps, elle peut causer une IRC. Les infections comme la p\u00e9ritonite infectieuse f\u00e9line (PIF) ou le virus de la leucose f\u00e9line (FeLV) ou le cancer peuvent entra\u00eener une inflammation des glom\u00e9rules (qui ont pour r\u00f4le d\u2019assurer la filtration des reins) et causer des l\u00e9sions qui se soldent par une IRC.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><b>Probl\u00e8me de prot\u00e9ines<\/b>\u00a0: l\u2019amylo\u00efdose, caus\u00e9e par l\u2019inflammation chronique d\u2019autres parties de l\u2019organisme, est une maladie qui peut alt\u00e9rer la fonction r\u00e9nale; le tissu normal est remplac\u00e9 par des d\u00e9p\u00f4ts de prot\u00e9ines qui ne peuvent \u00eatre \u00e9limin\u00e9s et le tissu endommag\u00e9 ne peut \u00eatre remplac\u00e9.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><b>Maladie r\u00e9nale familiale<\/b>\u00a0: on a constat\u00e9 que les races de chat \u00ab\u2009de luxe\u2009\u00bb (principalement le persan et les chats apparent\u00e9s) peuvent souffrir de maladies h\u00e9r\u00e9ditaires irr\u00e9versibles comme l\u2019amylo\u00efdose et la maladie polykystique des reins (kystes remplis de liquide).<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><b>Affection tubulo-interstitielle<\/b>\u00a0: cette maladie qui endommage les tubules r\u00e9naux et cause une inflammation est difficile et dangereuse \u00e0 d\u00e9pister, et comme la cause demeure souvent inconnue, il est rarement possible d\u2019adapter le traitement en fonction de l\u2019animal.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">D\u2019autres affections comme les anomalies cong\u00e9nitales qui touchent les reins et certains traumas peuvent aussi causer une IRC. L\u2019\u00e2ge, une mauvaise nutrition et de mauvais choix de nourriture peuvent \u00eatre des facteurs contributifs.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">Comme dans la plupart des cas il est impossible de d\u00e9terminer la cause, le traitement a pour objectif de ma\u00eetriser la maladie et ses complications.<\/span><\/p><h3><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><b>Signes de l&#8217;IRC<\/b><\/span><\/h3><p><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">Plusieurs mois ou ann\u00e9es peuvent s\u2019\u00e9couler avant que les signes de l&#8217;IRC se manifestent. On retrouve parmi ceux-ci la perte d\u2019app\u00e9tit, la perte de poids, l\u2019augmentation de la consommation d\u2019eau et des mictions, la d\u00e9shydratation, la n\u00e9gligence du toilettage, un pelage terne ou entrem\u00eal\u00e9, des yeux vitreux, l\u2019augmentation des heures de sommeil, la faiblesse et une mauvaise haleine. Une constipation et des vomissements intermittents peuvent \u00e9galement \u00eatre observ\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">Comme certains de ces sympt\u00f4mes peuvent \u00eatre attribu\u00e9s \u00e0 d\u2019autres maladies, il est pr\u00e9f\u00e9rable de consulter votre m\u00e9decin v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire et de faire passer des tests \u00e0 votre chat avant de tirer des conclusions.<\/span><\/p><h3><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><b>D\u00e9fis<\/b><\/span><\/h3><ul><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><strong>Consommation d\u2019eau\u00a0:<\/strong> La d\u00e9shydratation doit \u00eatre \u00e9vit\u00e9e. Consultez votre m\u00e9decin v\u00e9t\u00e9rinaire pour \u00e9tablir un plan d\u2019action.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><strong>Nourriture\u00a0:<\/strong> Une nourriture pour chat \u00e9quilibr\u00e9e et de qualit\u00e9 peut \u00eatre dispendieuse, mais les avantages \u00e0 long terme sont habituellement consid\u00e9rables.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><strong>Alimentation\u00a0:<\/strong> Les chats en sant\u00e9 ont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement besoin d\u2019une grande quantit\u00e9 de prot\u00e9ines, d\u2019une quantit\u00e9 mod\u00e9r\u00e9e de mati\u00e8res grasses et d\u2019une quantit\u00e9 minime de glucides. Ils ont \u00e9galement besoin d\u2019autres nutriments comme des vitamines, des min\u00e9raux, des acides gras et des acides amin\u00e9s. Chez les chats atteints d&#8217;IRC, le ratio des nutriments doit habituellement \u00eatre adapt\u00e9.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\"><strong>Toxines\u00a0:<\/strong> il est impossible de suivre un chat 24 heures par jour, 7 jours par semaine, particuli\u00e8rement s\u2019il aime explorer; c\u2019est pourquoi le risque d\u2019exposition \u00e0 des toxines est tr\u00e8s \u00e9lev\u00e9. Certains produits domestiques ou m\u00eame certains organismes naturels comme les lys peuvent \u00eatre dangereux.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><h3><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><b>Diagnostic de l&#8217;IRC<\/b><\/span><\/h3><p><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">Des analyses d\u2019urine et de sang peuvent aider \u00e0 diagnostiquer une IRC sur la base de la pr\u00e9sence de certains \u00e9l\u00e9ments en plus grande quantit\u00e9 dans ces liquides. La pression art\u00e9rielle est en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral elle aussi v\u00e9rifi\u00e9e. Certains signes cliniques doivent \u00e9galement \u00eatre pris en compte, comme un mauvais \u00e9tat corporel ou une atrophie musculaire apparente, des reins petits ou asym\u00e9triques et une vessie distendue.<\/span><\/p><h3><span style=\"color: #bc202e;\"><b>Traitement<\/b><\/span><\/h3><p><span style=\"color: #171b4b;\">Le traitement et la prise en charge de l&#8217;IRC peuvent prolonger la dur\u00e9e de vie du chat et en am\u00e9liorer la qualit\u00e9. Les propri\u00e9taires de chats atteints d&#8217;IRC pr\u00e9f\u00e8rent souvent un traitement par voie orale facile \u00e0 administrer directement dans la bouche du chat ou sur sa nourriture.<span
