There are animals up for adoption in seven provinces and territories.

For the holiday season, rescue groups are trying to make sure that pet adoption in Canada happens and animals across the country find their fur-ever homes.

This event, iAdopt for the Holidays, runs until December 31 and is all about getting as many animals as possible from SPCAs, humane societies and rescue groups into loving homes.

You can find your new best furry friend at participating locations in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Northwest Territories, Manitoba and Alberta.

Daryl Vaillancourt, chief of humane programs and community outreach with the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society, noted that this is about finding matches that will last a lifetime.

“Every animal deserves to have a special person or family to love and care for them,” he said.

There are dogs, cats and small pets like guinea pigs and rabbits available for adoption in the seven provinces and territories.

If you adopt from any of the participating rescue groups, you will be entered for the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card.

During this event last holiday season, almost 3,330 pets found their forever homes across Canada.

Recently, the Iqaluit Humane Society, which is the only one of its kind in Nunavut, started fundraising because the current shelter is set to be demolished.
