Indie the cat did eventually return, but it took her about eight years and some assistance from the Ottawa Humane Society.
After years of wandering and adventures known only to her, Indie, the 11-year-old tuxedo cat, has been reunited with her Montreal family after being discovered by a passerby in Ottawa.
How Indie ended up in the nation’s capital, 165 kilometers west of Montreal, remains a mystery.
Stephen Smith, a spokesperson for the humane society, reported that Indie was brought to them by a community member last week. She was found as a stray in the Gloucester suburb of the city.
The animal’s embedded microchip allowed authorities to track down her Montreal owners, who reunited with her in a touching moment four days ago.
Smith notes that this fortunate reunion underscores the importance of microchipping pets, which significantly increases the chances of such happy homecomings.
